About Haidakhan Baba Ji Temple

Perched at an altitude of 1777 metres, the Haidakhan Babaji Temple lies in Chiliyanaula, Ranikhet. The temple was established by Haidakhan Babaji who is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva, to whom this temple is dedicated. The temple is famous for the tranquility it offers to devotees. This temple is famous among foreigners, and Babaji is worshipped as a spiritual guru in many foreign countries. The term Haidakhan refers to a village in Nainital district, from where Babaji came to set up this temple ashram in Ranikhet. Initially referred to as Anandpuri Ashram, this ashram in due course of time became Haidakhan Babaji Temple.

Haidakhan Babaji is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva, and is known by various names like Tryambak Babaji, Mahavatar Babaji, Shiva Baba, Maha Munindra, and Maha Muni etc. He exhibited several Yogic powers such as giving darshan to devotees at different places simultaneously and communicating telepathically with his disciples. Babaji was such a mystic yogi that many of his devotees were High-ranking officials and people who abandoned skepticism after seeing babaji once. As a result the highly advanced saints, who had attained Mahasamadhi like Neem karoli Baba and Ranchordasji, advised their favorite disciples in their visions to go and worship the God Sadashiva who has come to earth in the form of Haidakhan Baba. Even today, one can see highly elevated saints and devotees coming and falling at the feet of Babaji. Where Baba always used to give the Shiv Panchakshri mool mantra to his devotees.

Babaji gave Mansa yoga initiation in his Haidakhan Ashram and remarkably, as recorded by his disciple Mahendra Maharaj, Babaji is the one who initiated Lahiri Mahasaya into Kriya yoga, and revived the long lost practice. Babaji used to perform Havan daily. If ghee was not available, he used to do Havan with water only. Once in Ranikhet, a Christian Principal of the college was told about this. The Principal was curious and went to see Babaji doing Havan on the roof of the second floor of the house. Whenever Babaji poured water into the Havan Kund, the flames rose 8 to 10 meters high. The Principal then became an ardent devotee of Babaji.

The Haidakhan Babaji Temple is located in Chiliyanaula, which is about 4.5 km from Ranikhet. The temple is described as a serene, powerful spiritual space where devotees can enter a state of meditation effortlessly by the grace of Haidakhan Babaji.

The Temple remains open for visits throughout the year. The best time to visit is any time of the year, though it is best to avoid the monsoon season(late June-August), the weather remains pleasant all year round.
